Top 5 Best Places To Hike In LA

Solstice Canyon, Malibu

- 3455 Solstice Canyon Rd, Malibu, CA 90265 -

Intensity: Moderate

Parking: Busy on Weekends

Dog Friendly

I've hiked here many times and it's a gorgeous! About a minute off the PCH but it feels pretty remote. Beautiful mountain view in one direction and a views of the ocean in the other. These photos were taken in the Spring after we had an incredible amount of rain. Luscious! Beeeee mindful, these flowers attract a ton of bees.

At the very beginning of the hike, right when you enter the trail, there is a staircase to the right. If you're looking for a bit more intensity take this route. It's also where you'll get a view of the ocean. Otherwise, keep moving forward for an easy stroll and take a little adventure through some old ruins and find the magical waterfall.

Runyon Canyon

- 2000 N Fuller Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046 -

Intensity: Moderate

Parking: Very Busy Small Lot, Street Parking

Dog Friendly

A truly iconic Los Angeles hike. Experience breathtaking views of the city right in WeHo's backyard. On a clear day you can see all the way to ocean. I definitely don't feel like I've stepped out of the city on this hike, but it's still refreshing. And the people-watching couldn't be more interesting.

Oh, and if you want to do it real LA style, go for brunch after. Really though, it's the only way. For some yummy vegan eats in the area check my list of The Top Vegan Restaurants in Los Angeles.

Deukmejian Wilderness Park

- 3429 Markridge Rd, Glendale, CA 91214 -

Intensity: Moderate

Parking: Large Parking Lot

Dog Friendly

I love this hike. I feel like I'm really out of the city when I hike here and it's definitely the most rugged of the hikes I've been on in Los Angeles. Through the San Gabriel mountain foothills, there are several different paths to take but I recommend Mummy Rock Nature Trail. You'll be hiking along side a beautiful open view hillside view and then take a turn in to a canopy-covered climb across a little river. It feels a little "jungly," like a baboon could swing down from the trees at any time. There is also a great little picnic area near the parking lot with no shortage of great views, so don't forget to pack a lunch with some wine, or beer... or both!

Bronson Canyon

- 3200 Canyon Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90068 -

Intensity: Moderate

Parking: Medium sized lot

Dog Friendly

I have a special place in my heart for this hike. I use to do it a couple times a week because I lived nearby. This is a great alternate hike to Runyon Canyon. It's not as busy with hikers and has a little bit more of an incline. This hike will actually connect you with the Hollywood Sign hike but it would take about 45 minutes or more to get there.

It's a good way to see the Hollywood Sign nowadays because roads going up on Beachwood Canyon are usually being monitored and you need a pass to get through. Once you reach the top you'll be hiking along side the wall of the city. You may even come across a few horses along the way. Stop by Franklin Village and check out Franklin & Co., The Oaks or La Poubelle for some tasty grub and a cold bevvy afterward!

Newton Canyon Trailhead

- 1689 Kanan Dume Rd, Malibu, CA 90265 -

Intensity: Moderate and Intense

Parking: Street Parking

It has been a while since I've done this hike but I really enjoyed it the last time out. It has several different terrains and views of some beautiful wildflowers. The majority of the trail is moderate, but there are sections that get intense, so be prepared for a little challenge. Halfway through, you'll find an abundant and beautiful waterfall where you can sit and have a snack. There are a few small streams and plenty of shade to enjoy while you gather some energy. I recommend heading here on a weekend and couple your journey with a little time on the beach in Malibu, or a drink at the Malibu Pier. You won't be disappointed.

I hope you guys enjoyed my selections of the best places to hike in LA. There are so many places I still have to check-out so please be sure to send me your favorite places below! Happy hiking Angelenos!
