5 Ways to Let Your Soul Shine!

I'm sure most of us can think of a time in our lives where we felt a little "stuck". It's not a surprise that sometimes the hum drums of everyday life can leave us feeling a little blazé and trying to balance the intricacies of life can get a little draining. So, I thought I would share some of the things that I do to get myself out of a grumpy funk and maybe some of these will help you for those days you just can't seem to snap out of it.

 

Count My Blessings

 

In the world we live in today it can be easy to be heavily focused on the future and what we can get next, do next, see next. It's always got to be bigger, better, faster, stronger and sometimes it seems like it's never enough and we can't find satisfaction in anything. Not only is that a crappy feeling but also when we're never satisfied with the here and now, it can send the wrong message energetically. Counting your blessings from small to big can really help put things into perspective and focus our energy on all the good things that we already have and in doing so humbling us to the present moment. I like to write them down or rhyme them off in my head before I go to bed. If you don't already do this, you could start with 5 things a day and keep adding to the list, you'll be surprised how many things you have to be grateful for and how big your list will get.

 

Dance

 

This never fails to get the energy moving in my body and brighten my spirits. It doesn't have to be good, it doesn't have to be on tempo, just let your body move! Completely forget about what you look like and instead pay attention to how you feel moving to the music. Try to become one with it. I like to put on my favorite tunes, something I know always gets me in a good mood, and blast it. This gets your endorphins flowing and can really help you to shift your mindset.

 

Pay it Forward 

 

When you're in a rut, sometimes it seems like the last thing you wanna do is do something for someone else. However, when you do something nice for someone else you get an instant dopamine release because it feels good to help and good to give. The second I start to focus my energy outward and think about others needs instead of my own, I feel a sense of a relief and a weight is lifted off my shoulders somehow. These gestures can be big or small. Even as simple as smiling at a stranger, giving a hug to someone in need, helping a friend or even just a simple good morning to someone you pass on the street. 

 

Connect with Nature

 

Get outside! Whenever I feel like I need some direction or time to think I like to immerse myself in nature. If you live in a big city find a park or a trail or if you live near the ocean, go to it. The ocean absorbs negative energy and after just an hour of sitting near the waves and walking barefoot on the sand I find myself feeling a lot more grounded. Wherever you are, try to get outside and be around nature. Often, we're surrounded by buildings, electronics, wifi and radio waves or simply just cooped up inside and getting around living organisms and hearing the sounds of the animals can help to clear our minds and re-focus our energy. 

 

Play

 

What I mean by play is doing something that isn't exactly going to check an item off your to-do list or pay the bills but seems like it might just be fun. Like swing on a swing or do the hop scotch on the sidewalk... anything that seems like good old fashion fun, just for the heck of it. Don't hesitate and start thinking about all the reasons why you shouldn't do it, instead just do it immediately. Try to let yourself live in the moment and enjoy doing something that doesn't have a materialistic pay off. I find this to be extremely freeing and it reminds me the times when playing was a part of everyday life. So, embrace your inner child and get a little silly if you feel like it!
